406 - location of OBD connector

Hi everyone, greetings from Italy

I just bought a 406 St Sport 2.2 hdi, brand new.

does anyone know where is located the OBD connector (the one for electronic diagnosis)? and if it's OBD or OBDII compliant?

thank you very much indeed

16 pin socket is located behind trim panel to the right of steering wheel in the lower dash panel. There are 2 covers (or 1 switch and a cover) the diagnostic cover has a small cutout at the top to lever out with a small screwdriver. It is OBDII compatible but VERY limited. Diag 2000 or PPS (dealer equipment) is only way to get into all systems (as far as I know). Good luck, Paul.

Beware that presence of OBD connector does not mean the vehicle speaks OBD. Mine is S reg early '98 with an OBD connector but I cannot get it to respond using the Scantool/Elm Electronics kit

Probings with a scope suggest it is not responding to the initial ISO-9141 wake up call at all. IIRC Europe did not require OBD until 2000.

I did try to use the Peugeot web site to post a request for confirmation of this and got the following unhelpful reply:

Thank you for your email dated the 17th of March.

Unfortunately we do not have a customer faced technical department at head office and go through our dealer network for technical advice. If they are unable to answer a technical question then they will be able to contact our in-house specialists which are there for dealer support.

I am sorry that i am unable to be of more assistance in this matter.

Best regards,

Simon Boden (Peugeot UK)

So visit your local dealer - and try explaining the intricacies of OBD and ISO-9141-2 to them :-)
