Do it yourself for £15. All a "service" is, as standard, is a new set of spark plugs, an oil filter and an air filter. All a piece of piss to change, except the oil filter which makes oil fall out but then you can kill two birds with one stone and replace the oil too.

Yes but he'll want to keep his warranty and, although we all may be perfectly competent to change such things, you can bet that Peugeot won't see it that way if there's a warranty claim. The better alternative is to try a Peugeot specialist who may well do the service for less than the main dealer yet will be counted as competent.

A few things :

1. Self-servicing a new car isn't an option. Voiding your warranty would be a rather silly thing to do :)

1. Modern spark plugs don't need changing after 20k. Platinum-tipped plugs are usually specced to last *at least* two service intervals / 4 years /

1. The modern spark plugs above, will cost around £15 *each* from your local motorfactor. NGK example : "Spark plug for 406 - PLFR5A-11 PHASE 2 3000cc 210bhp ES9J4S-XFX: 00- £14.07"

2. Add £20 for 5l of oil, and £10 for the two filters, and the total service cost for my 406 Coupe would be £120 based > Do it yourself for £15. All a "service" is, as standard, is a new set

Hm, in Croatia dealers give first service for free. Where are you from?

But it's after 10 000km, so it could be that they basically don't change anything on that service, but on later after 30 000km.

There is a free service at 6000 miles. The 20k service you pay for.
