Alarm activating on 406 Coupe

The alarm on my year 2000 SE keeps going off in the middle of the night for apparently no reason (well once or twice a week at the moment)

Its happens at around 3 and 5 am.

I am currently trying it with the ultrasonic thingy's deactivated to see if that helps.

Something I noticed (at 3am this morning) that seemed curious also - the service indicator had gone from 3500 miles to next service to 0 miles! Could it be that the battery is going? Or may be the ultrasonics or even a door/bonnet switch?

Is there any way of finding out what detector/switch actually set the alarm off ??

Please help - me and the neighbours could really do with a good nights sleep...

I had this on a 405 with the Peugeot alarm system. I tried the ultrasonics - no joy. Discovered that the courtesy light in the rear of the estate had been knocked off. Putting this back to normal operation cured the fault.

This also happened with the rear passenger courtesy light but had it sussed by then. . Why there is such a time delay with this type of condition I do not know.

I suppose that a blown interior light bulb will also cause the alarm. to operate

Probably a similar alarm system on your 406 as I have a late model 405

Helpful to the newsgroup readers if you could report progress.

Thanks sid.

I'll check out the interior lights. So far I have been arming the alarm with the untrasonics disabled (via the switch near the handbrake). No alarm activations yet.

The alarm on my 98 406 V6 works ok, lights flash etc but the siren doesn't sound. Am I missing something? Is there a way of testing it, bearing in mind I can't even see it.

Thx

Maybe it's switched off! There is a keylock in the boot, adjacent to the O/S light unit. Assuming you have the key, turn it one way or the other and try the alarm again. The siren is, I think, under the car at the rear O/S in a sort of metal box. I may be wrong there though!

Ok I've looked everywhere in the boot to find this keylock but can't see it. I have found the metal box, bolted up under the floor of the boot. Can't see what's inside it, there are two or three wires wrapped in black insulating tape going into it through a grommet from the boot side behind the boot carpet. The wires come join the loom that includes the rear O/S lights. Can't find any connectors or switches. Is this kinda thing covered in the Haynes manual, I would happily go and buy one but they don't cover the V6. I must be getting warm lol

Thx for help, but more needed !!
