Any idea on cost...

After having my '96 106 escapade L3 serviced a few weeks back they told me that it would need a lot of work doing to the braking system

- they wanted nearly =A3900 to do the work (main dealer prices).

They wanted =A3900 to replace the entire front braking system (calipers, pads, flexi hoses etc). I've replaced the pads myself as they were pretty worn, but I'm going to get someone else to replace the Calipers.

Any ideas on a rough cost to replace both front calipers?

Cheers

Chris

Calipers are either £60 or £40 each depending on type from GSF, pads are about £18 a set. They don't sell the pipes but I wouldn't think they're too expensive. So somewhere in the £160 to £200 tops for parts unless they're fiddling with tthe master cylinder which I doubt. Labour, well I dunno as I'm only a dabbler but I bet a decent mechanic could do the lot in 3 hours or so. So say £200 for labour.

Of course someone will be along soon to tell you that's rubbish but I'd check out a local Pug/Citroen specialist before commiting yourself.

The entire front braking system kaput? Might be worth getting a second opinion. Sounds as if they have found some sort of fault, but are not sure what it is, so the remedy is to change the lot - dead easy when you're paying. Discs do wear out, so no doubt they might need doing, and you have to vhange the pads at the same time. Callipers? never changed one yet, and I have had cars far older than that. Our '96 106 was fine. Of course, if it has been left halfway down a slipway over a high tide, it would be different.

I'm in Dewbury - west yorkshire. Just found out that we have a mechanic in the family so am going to get them to give me a second opinion and hopefully they will be nice with me on costs of work needed!

Cheers
