black oil cooler

I`ve got a oil cooler off a 1.9GTI that I`m gonna fit to my 1.6... Bascily i was wondering why they are black...? surley that attracts heat...? or does it radiate heat better...?

Shouldn`t it be silver or white...

If it is in direct sunlight, it would absorb heat, but black also dissipates heat better if the surroundings are cooler. That's why it is nonsense to paint the central heating things white :-)

Hi,

Both. It just depends on whether it's hotter or cooler than its surroundings.

Nope - both are reflective, white most of all. (The colour you see is the reflected part of the incident spectrum. In the case of white, in white light, that's all of it.)
