Cambelt, valves, water

Hi,

I recently had my cambelt and a couple of valves replaced.

I recently checked the oil level and found that the mechanic had put in more than I would have done.

On checking the water level in the header tank, I found it low. It usually does not leak.

Do you think that when the mechanic did the head and cambelt job that a water loss was likely.

I thought I'd ask before blaming the mechanic.

My guess is that somewhere during the dismantling, water was lost, and he forgot to replace it. I added about 600 cc.

Thanks

Yes water usually comes out when the head is taken off.

I thought so, 800 cc sounds about right.

I was surprised that he forgot to replace it.

I didn't notice untill I decided on a basic check. The temp of the water was normal, but then even if the expansion task is half empty there are still litres of water in the system.

Best wishes

I'd be more concerned about changing that brake cylinder than worrying about the odd 800 cc of water!

Water down and oil up. Your theory could be right or the head may not have been fully tightened and the water is migrating into the oil. I would keep an eye on it for a while if I were you. If the oil gets deeper and more water disappears......

I'll keep an eye on it.

The work was done by an engineering company that specialises in this type of work. I hope they wouldn't make a mistake in head tightening. The oil looks like fresh clean oil, no obvious water contamination. Car runs well. But I'll check in a week and hopefully the water will be where I left it. If not, its back to the engineers.

Fingers crossed for you.
