It's always advisable to remove the negative battery lead when carrying out any electrical work to make the work area safe and prevent damage to components. Use a good quality deep socket of the correct size to remove the plugs as they are sometimes very tight.. Don't risk shearing them. It's a good idea to apply a little copper anti-seize grease to the threads when re-fitting. Make sure you know the radio code just in case it's required after re-connection of the battery. KF

i have to disconect the battery No you don't have to disconnect the battery, just make sure the ignition is off. The only peculiarity is why they made it so damn difficult to remove the one behind the pump!!!

I guess it could be a circulation problem. Or the sensor for the cooling fans, or the sensor for the coolant temperature is faulty. Could be many things. Of course if you are sat around in queuing traffic it is possible that the cooling fans are still required, even in this cold weather.

My Haynes manual says it's "located on most models in the left-hand side of the radiator. On models with air conditioning, the cooling fans are controlled by the "Bitron" sensor." I think by left-hand side they mean when looking at the radiator from the driver's seat. From the wiring diagram it says the connector to the cooling fan switch will be coloured blue.

From experience, the only sensor on the left-hand side (when looking from the front of the car) is the low-coolant sensor.

Hope that helps, Stuart

Have you checked the coolant level? Could be low...
