it only reqires a cat for mot then you can de cat it by putting a replacement pipe plus it depends onthe year of mod
AFAIK upto 1997 didn't have them
1999- did have them 1998 some did, some didn't. Although the Partner van later then 1998 doesn't have one either (same engine)it doesnt really need it, and being a diesel it should pass its MOT test without one, why do you want to remove it though?

mine cracked at the weld. got a new straight pipe from the dealer for £15. car goes much better now than ever. just worried i'd been fed mis information concerning the CAT
ok, only petrol engined cars are subject to a catalyst test, diesel engines undergo a completely different test.
2 different types depending on whether its a turbo diesel or not, slightly more leniant test levels for turbo diesels.steve.
smoke test for diesel engines
AKA free acceleration test. Consists of flooring the accellerator with the vehicle out of gear and measuring how thick the resultant smoke from the exhaust is. Turbos are alowed to be a little more smoky than atmos. To help clear a year's worth of gunk from the system it is best to drive round the block in first gear before you go for the test and make sure the timing belt has been seviced as per the manufacturers instructions.
