MY 306 Whips in when turning right!

Hi

I have a problem with my 306 dturbo.

When turning right at normal road speed my car whips in!. By this i mean it will turn right as normal then suddenly turn in a bit more without actually turning on the steering wheel. As you can imagine this can be quite hairy if cornering at speed and as you release the steering whips back. It seems to get to a point on the sterring where it whips in and the same point where it whips out on exit a corner. This only happens when turning right and is perfectly fine when cornering left as that is smooth how it should be.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated

I don't know the answer, but would love to know if you find out, as my 406 seems to have a similar trait.

I have the same problem.. I found this on the net yesterday.. It is suspension related.

Q. The handling of my Peugeot has become unpredictable and it sometimes feels like the rear end is wandering during cornering. What is wrong? A. There are two possibilities here, and both need resolving immediately:

  1. Check the rear sub-frame rubber mounts as they often split in half, particularly on older models.
  2. Check for play in the trailing arm bearings. These are the bearings that the trailing arm pins locate in, inside the rear suspension tube. They allow the trailing arms to move up and down smoothly. They regularly wear out, particularly if moisture has got inside the bearing tube. You can test for play with the car raised off the ground at the rear - try and move the wheel in and out of the wheel arch. It should only move up and down, not in and out (small movement of the wheel when grasped either side could be a worn wheel bearing). Replacement of the bearings is a specialist job. Often the bearing surface of the pins will be worn as well, and if so, they must be replaced. It will probably be more cost effective to replace the whole sub-frame with a reconditioned unit. Beware when buying 2nd hand sub-frames, as the bearings are generally in poor condition once past 5-6 years old.

my 306 used to do this when turning right also.its the bushings on the wishbone.you need to take out the wishbone and tap out the front rubber bushings and replace these with new ones.it is also a good idea to replace the p-bushings at the back of the wishbone aswell while its out as these are bound to go at sometime if they aren?t already on away on your car.the bushings cost around 5quid each available at any motor factor.

Happened to me very recently. You may want to check and change the stabilizer link bars, the bars that run from the shock to the stabilizer bar. I changed the both and no longer have that problem.

if the droplinks are worn the car will feel "boaty" both ways but its the bushings away when the car whips to the right.if the droplinks are worn there is usually a knocking noise when travelling over bumpy roads. Its def worth checking them as they are a cheap and easy to change if worn.a fiver will buy one
