Re: 406 HDI Erratic Fuel Gage

Has anyone come across an erratic fuel gage. The gage would go from 50%

Yes, is the short answer, It can get quite maddening, sometimes without warning the tank woulkd show half full giving 390 miles on the computer, then if you had forgottenm when you filled up the next time the car was started it would show almost empty. Once I knew it was empty but the tank showed 3/4 full so I put in 20 litres, when I restarted it showed half full. But since I went over a speed bump a little too fast it has settled down - no more problems, probably a loose sender or wire.

Hello,

Possibly. Took from the 206 handbook : "don't try to fill any more after 3 fuel "pistol" cutoffs, it could involve some malfunctions". So if I get it correctly, it means "problem with sensor". A bit like on a Twingo.

Thank you guys for the information, it looks like I need to install a new fuel level sensor.Hopefully it will be a improved one.
