1992 Grand Prix Radiator

My car began leaking coolant at the end of March, didn?t really think anything of it until i drove to Michigan City, IN, from Portage, MI. I was at the outlet mall there, waiting for my friend to show up from Chicago so I could take her back home to Portage, and there?s a huge puddle of coolant under the front end of my car. I checked it out and I realized I have a crack on the driver?s side of the radiator, near the top (stupid plastic radiators). Is this a common problem with the

1992 Grand Prix? I?ve never had any overheating problems, but when i go down the highway or down a country road the low coolant light comes on. In the beginning of May, I pulled a radiator from a Euro Lumina in my Auto Tech class, took mine out, and tried to put the Lumina one in, just to find out it didn?t fit. It must?ve been a 94 cuz i know the system changed after 93. So I put my radiator back in and I?ve been driving it with the crack ever since then. The reservoir was empty until about 2 weeks ago when I put more coolant in there, but it all leaked out after the car would be running cuz it?d leak out the crack. I?d be at work or at a friend?s house and I?ll come out and coolant will be all over the ground. Never leaked a drop after I pulled the radiator, but as soon as I put more coolant in there, it leaked. Does anyone know of a cheap radiator for a 92 Grand Prix? I figured I should probably get one since we?ve been having all of these 90 degree days here in Michigan.

It is not A common problem for a 92 GP Radiator to leak. It is common for a 13 year old Radiator to leak. You got the life expectancy out of it. Buy a new radiator. My 91 cracked the tanks up at the high end, after 14 years at 297,000 miles.

Shop around the prices vary.

I agree with Harry Face. I just replaced mine last week on my 91 GP with 160k. It also cracked on the high end as you describe. Took me about 2 hrs to do the job my self. Actually this plastic radiator lasted longer than the all metal ones on my previous cars I had from the

60's and 70's. I paid $265 at Auto Zone with the life time warranty. Didn't mind since I plan to keep this car even after I get a new one.

Have Fun...
