1999 Grand Am Accerlation Trouble Shifting Problems

I have a 1999 Grand Am SE, 3.4L V6, 86,000 miles. Recently I've noticed the performance falling off by more then 40%. At first it would just lag and not downshift to get power. Pulling out in traffic started getting risky. Then it started getting worse and it wouldn't maintain a speed, it would either slow down or I'd have to floor it and find the right amount of throttle to get it to accelerate. Took it into the shop and they said it was the catalyst and it had broken up and caused it to plug up the exhaust...well got that all replaced and I was driving it a couple days later and it would just lag and stall and wouldn't even accelerate if floored. I ended up having to pump the throttle to get it to keep speed and and not slow down to a crawl. Any ideas would be great if you could help. my e-mail is larryrd@rocketmail. com

I left a space in the e-mail so as to keep from getting too much spam. just correct it if you email...or else you can just post a reply here.

Thanks for any help that anyone can give.

Larry

It could be anything. Checking fuel pressure is certainly a good idea. Start with complete tune-up, air filter, fuel filter, ..... GW
