2004 GTO's at good prices

There was an ad in the LA Times today that Cerritos Pontiac has 3 new GTO's on sale for $24,888. Atleast 2 are 6 speeds.

I test drove one this weekend. They wanted under $25K also (here in Texas). That shifter is really bad, but apart from that an amazing muscle car.

Its probably likely that the '05's will sell under MSRP also.

Does anyone have a reputable estimate of when 2005's will be available?

The first boatload or two of 2005's is sitting on the docks at Benecia, CA (Bay Area). GM is holding them until late December, at which point in time they will start to trickle them out to dealers, for arrival in late January. They want to clear out as many of the '04's as possible...

The 2005's will be a short model year (only building about 12,000 cars, instead of the 16,000 cars they built for '04) - due to the 2-3 month delay in getting the cars here. They'll start building the '06's in May/June for arrival during the "normal" new car arrival period of August/September.

Should be able to do that. Invoice on the car is around $31,200 (stick) or $31,700 (manual). Incenvitves range from $5500 off on the east coast and in the south, to $5000 in the midwest, to only $3000 on the west coast. Plus, each dealer has a limited number of $500 "value certificates" that they can use to close a deal, and to which they can use up to 3 on a GTO deal.

So, figure $31,200 (6-speed) - 5000 (Midwest) - $1500 (certs) = $24,700

  • TTL. The auto would obviously be 0 more. You might even get the dealership to give up some of their 3% holdback, especially if they've been sitting on/floor-planning the cars for awhile. This is a tremendous deal.

Oh, don't forget, if you have a GM card, you might be able to use up to $2k in earnings against the car. And, of course, there are the standard $500 military or college graduate discounts...

Thanks for that info! Is the '06 planned to be built in the Holden Elizabeth Plant also .i.e. will it be the Australian Commodore based model again?

You know, some dealers were telling me that the 2005 wont be available till June!! How absurd.

Yes, though it will continue to be built on the VY Commodore chassis. The VZ Commodore is currently on sale in Oz and it forms the basis for the Zeta platform on which the next-gen GTO, G8, Buick VElite coupe and unnamed sedan, and future Chevy coupe (Chevelle? Camaro? Monte Carlo?) and sedan (3rd-gen Impala?) will be based on...

Reminds me of the old question, how can you tell when a car salesman is lying? His lips are moving.

Will you take $15000 for them, or $30000 for both?
