thanks sivler surfer, I knew it was under the hood, but which one is what I wasn't sure of and its not like there's anything on it to indicate which is which. even the chiltons manual just mentions relays but doesn't pinpoint it. what's the autozone you mentioned?

They have lots of repair information, electrical diagrams, and a "component locater." Take a look. It might come in handy some day.
