93 SSE abs codes

Is there a way to get the error code number for the ABS brake system without using a handheld reader? My light is staying on most of the time. I pulled the fuse under the dash and it stayed off for about 20 miles but came back on. Really enjoy this group even though I just mostly read the posts. Thanks, Chuck

There is no easy way out with ABS. After reading several manuals including the factory service manual, I have located and solved ABS problem on both of our cars (at time I think it is just luck). So if you are good with ohm meter, have patient and eager to solve this ABS problem then do this. First, check each wheel and note all ABS sensor resistance (at the sensor all the way up to ABS module). For my car the ABS's coil resistance is around 1.2 Kohms to 1.4K ohms. If one of the wheel has lower or significant higher resistance value, it could be the one. To be sure, clean the contact and apply a bit of grease (small amount to coat the pins) then re-test the circuit again. That solved one of our vehicle (one of ABS jumper harness from rear wheel travel over the trailing arm had corrosion on contact pins). My second vehicle has traction control and ABS option. Last Spring, my ABS/Traction control failed, after checking each wheel, I found one of my front ABS sensor read 15 Kohms. I knew at that time it is the one. I sat on this problem for about two weeks then re-check the resistance again, it was about 4 or 5 Kohms (not sure exactly but the point is the resistance has dropped from initial value). I decided to gamble and swap this ABS sensor out lone and behold I was right again.

Hope this help and good luck.
