94 Bonnevile Fuel Pump - tank replacement

Hi all: Hope someone has a suggestion on this one. My gas tank was rusted on top so I dopped tank and replaced with new including sending unit, sock, fuel filter and hoses (reused pump). Went to start and engine would not catch so I had to gas with peddle. finally cought and drove a couple miles real bad performance to get gas. made it home and ran even worse. Back fires, hesitates, the more gas I give it the slower it goes. took to gas station to have them test pressure and got 8 lbs at fuel rail. said it was bad pump. barely made it home and car will not start but tries to catch and run 2 - 3 seconds with low popping. Dropped tank and connected pump to 12v it runs. bought new pump but do not want to install if it could be something else. Whats next? is it worth putting the 100.00 pump in? or check something else? thanks, ed

God , you went through all the work of dropping the tank and expense of replacing all the other parts one normally replaces when doing a fuel pump job.

If you got 8 pounds of pressure and the shop told you you needed a new fuel pump put one in.

Yup! Easy to drop 2nd time. new bolts, straps, lines. new pump went in easy and did the job. Ran the old pump dirct connect and it spins fine but must not be pumping. Could it have been jammed? Dont know. Thanks God, Ed
