Clicking Engine

Got a '97 grand am v-6 that clicks when it's cold. Sounds like a noisy lifter and lacks power when it's clicking. When in park I take the rpms up and at exactly 4000 it misses. When it warms up the clicking stops and it runs fine. Help!

i also have a 97 grand am and i had the EXACT prob. i found out that its most likely to be the cylinder heads hitting the headers, and when it gets warm the cylinders finally conform to the circular shape and therefore, stopping the noise.

If it's the 3.1 engine..It's posible that the piston are aluminum and it takes a few minuts for the pistons to swell up and take the piston slap out...The 3.1 is known for it...
