HEAD LIGHT AND CRUISE CONTROLL SWITCH

How do i take apart my head light switch on the left side of my steering wheel. Only my high beams work and i think its not making contact because if i hit the switch with my hand the lights will come on. but when i hit a bump they go right back out. (1995 Pontiac grand am, 3.1 v6).

Remove the steering wheel and the retainer. Carefully. Disarm the airbag first or it will take your head off.

Great answer Paul, with just 1 exception,-between the steering wheel and dash board if the steering column is 2 halfs te lower part of the colmn can come apart to replace that switch,-----look for screws holding both halfs of the steering column together, if no screws and column is 1 solid piece, then Paul is correct in haveing to take the steering wheel off. Yes, my car does have two halfs, because i have had to take it appart before because one of the pins in my tilt wheel came out and i had to push it back in. Q: any idea why i having this problem. Do you think thats all it is, is a loose connection.

Hello Keepitloe, good, you might not have to take the steering wheel off to get at that switch, just remove the lower half of column, and check for loose connections or replace the switch. Mike De Vito
