It does *appear* that he got screwed-- but there is a lot lacking there. [Like the customer's name [not a big deal, but anonymity is a cop out if you want to be taken seriously], the city [a major deal as all Maaco's are not created equal & TPTB at MAACO can pull a franchise] and what efforts the owner might have made to resolve the problems.

Here's my Maaco story-- I post with my real name & it was the Schenectady, NY Maaco.

Had my daughter's 99 Grand Am painted. There was a dent in the hood. It is black, so there were lots of minor scratches. 99 Grand Am so there was a rust spot by the gas cap.

Bought the middle quality paint job-- without looking it up I think it was about $500 all told. Dropped it off Wed morning-- got it back Friday noon. Over the weekend I noted some roughness by driver's door. [clearcoat over some dust?]

Brought it in Monday & they buffed it out.

The next week I noticed a blister by the gas tank where they had welded a piece in for a patch. Brought it to the attention of Tom [the owner] and he wrote up a slip to have it re-done when she got back from school. [she was leaving the next day]

She got home a couple weeks ago & I called Tom. He remembered the car & did it up in short order. No whining, no excuses. He explained that they needed to cut a larger piece out than they had originaly.

It isn't a $4000 paint job on a sports car--- but it *is* a good job and the service I got was excellent. [nothing like an unforseen problem to really tell you if a business wants to stay in business for a while]

When Earl Shibe painted my 63 Chevy for $30 you could tell it was an Earl Shibe job from about 100 feet. [unless I was going over 30mph]

You'd have to spend a few minutes with a sharp, experienced eye to tell that this Maaco job wasn't from a custom shop.
