The "Check Engine" warning light was on after getting an oil change at a local CTC garage. I didn't see it until I was driving on the highway the day after. I called a guy who does work for me and brought the car there. He had a code reader but couldn't find it but knew about jumping the two pins trick. That didn't work despite using a couple of different wire and cleaning the ends to be sure it wasn't corrosion.

Still, no luck. Hmmm, I wondered - I don't suppose the mechanic did something yesterday at the CTC.

I opened the hood and guess what. A sensor wire that is attached to the air intake about halfway along was off!!!! I put it back on and the problem disappeared. Funny thing is I got a call the next day for the garage asking if everything was ok with the service!!! Coincidence??? Hmmmmm. I guess so, but why would that wire be off when it wasn't near anything else he checked - it's clipped on pretty good? All he had to do was unscrew the four screws on the air filter cover and that's nowhere near that connection. Hmmmm?

1994 does NOT use a shorting wire, and DOES require a code reader. it spits the codes out in a steady stream. The older Monitor4000 will read them just fine, but the new Gemini cannot. go figure.
