If you enjoy rebuilding engines and have another vehicle to drive in the mean time, then rebuild. If you just want to make another 50k miles, then get used and have it installed.

Can you find a good used one? Price-wise, commercial rebuilds are getting totally outrageous. Swapping in a used one is something a backyard hack can do, and may well be more reliable. But again, only if you can find one.

What's wrong with your motor?

there is nothing wrong with the engine thus far, it just has 233,000 miles on it. how much longer could it last. do think it could've been rebuilt already? how would you tell, the dealer does not know anything

Properly maintained, there is no reason today's engines cannot go

500,000 miles. Not sure about the little GM engine though.

Look where proper maintenance got me. If your engines running fine - despite its mileage don't touch it.

thank you for all the help, i just didn't know how well it was taken care of. the oil when i bought the car was like mud, there were chunks in there and i have never seen that, the engine just sounds tired.
