Static on AM in Bonneville

I have a 2002 Bonneville that has developed a terrible static noise on the radio but there are a few odd things ro consider: It 's only on AM (yes, I listen to talk radio) It only started in the last 3-4 months It only happens when the engine is running If I turn on the turn signals, it stops momentarily Sometimes if I hit a bump, it gets really loud for a few minutes My wife has a new Impala with the same basic GM radio and sitting side by side, her car has no static. I've looked for loose connections on the spark plugs and coils and even the antena connections. I took it back to the dealer which was an excercise in futilty and they changed the radio but it's the same thing. Any suggestions?

Me too.

I assume the noise stops when the signal lamp is illuminated? And back to noise when the lamp is off? If so, the lamp is shorting the noise to ground. Do other lamps also have this side benefit? Headlamps? Driving lamps?

Loose conection somewhere. You might try running the engine and shaking harnesses around. This won't be easy but might help narrow the source.

Does the noise change with engine speed? If not then it's not spark for fuel. Try to find some vehicle item to relate it to. As an example there's an ETC motor controlling the throttle. Does the noise appear with the engine off but the throttle operated? If so than this is the source of the noise. There are many actuators on mondern cars.

Sorry I'm not much help here.
