Warning for Sunfire/GTO owners

Heads Up,

H11-55W low beam bulbs are not a standard stock item in the parts stores and some dealers at this point.

This past weekend I had the low beam crap out on me (36,017 miles.... it figures). No problem, just trot on off to AutoZone for a replacement....nope. Not stocked. OK, NapaOnline....nope. WalMart? Nope. Advance Auto Parts? Nope...not there. Pep Boyz? Uhhh, nope. A Monday morning call to the dealer? Nope, has to order it in.

So, the moral of the story is....plan ahead for your bulb failures....because a quick fix is not in the cards...at least not yet. Maybe in a few years.

Done that, as listed in my original comment.

THe H11 format is new, no one (other than GM) seems to have direct replacement bulbs. Now, if you want some Ricer 12000K (degrees Kelvin) purple bulbs, you can find them on Ebay.

Screw that, I would go to the dealer and say these things are impossible to find, and you overcharge for them, have them either sell them to you at list or replace them under warranty.

Actually, they cost $14 a peice after tax. Not all that unreasonable considering you can't find them anywhere else. And the dealer has been VERY good to me over the past two years, (Zigrossi in Batavia NY) so I'm not going to complain at all.

However, one additional warning....when replacing the bulb, do not get in a hurry and just jam it in...you will break the bulb.

Trust me.

Also, it may be a good idea to ask the dealer to order one for you, and one for stock when you place the original order.

Why are your guys headlights burning out? My 71 T/A still has the 34 year old Delco Guide Power Beams still going strong. Most of the bulbs are the originals.

They must not make bulbs like they used to ...

Your last sentance said it all. I doubt your '71 has halogen bulbs. The realy funny thing is, and the parts guy pointed it out, they are listed as Long Life.

HAHAHA, long life..sure...and the check's in the mail.

So much for progress.

Harry....my car has been driven plently of times at night. Nobody took care of the car for the first 10 years of its life. It had around 80,000 miles by 1978. Right now it sits at 148,200 miles.
