1983 SC battery issue?

New alternator put in last year. Battery came with car and I can't make out its date, but it's at least 4 years old.

I was away on business for 2 weeks and when I came home the engine wouldn't crank. It appeared I had electricity - the radio, headlights, etc., all worked, but no turnover.

I checked as many connections I could, then jumpstarted it. It started up fine, and I drove it for almost an hour. Then it sat at work for the day, and was dead by the early evening.

As long as I jumpstart it it runs fine. The alternator light behaves normally. Is this as simple as a bum battery? Can you have enough current that all the electrical devices appear to work, but not enough to crank?

The two weeks I was away were these last couple, so it was freakishly hot and the car sat in the sun.

Thanks.
