944 timing belt

hi guys,

what is a reasonable price for a timing belt replacement on a 944? I know it's gonna be expensive 'cause of the water pump. I'm considering picking up an '88 for a daily hawler and it should get a TB right away, just want some idea so I know if I'm getting shafted or not.

thanks,

nate

Have at least $1500 dollars set aside. They will also want to do the rollers (4 of them?) along with the t-belt and water pump. Be prepared to shell out more money if they find other problem areas. Of course, this is a lot cheaper than a top end rebuild if the belt snaps....and the $1500 looks like pocket change compared to the $4500 it cost me to do a 30k t-belt/water pump service on a Ferrari 308.

Well I was quoted $800-850 and that includes the water pump and front seals, not sure about the rollers. So I guess he is being cool (have taken other cars there previously, he knows me.)

thanks for the reply.

The total price ain't nothing to do with the belt or water pump...Because the belt and pump cost nothing. About 50 buks for the belt and a 100 for the pump or so. But it takes 8 hours to replace it. It's alot of work to build off that stuff. So if you have to do this job you better replace also your waterpump and maybe the rollers. Cause they have to be take off at that time. So better replace it.
