Any one here ever rebuilt a toque tube?

do what 928 Intl tells you, if there is anyone of the planet that knows more about 928's and what can be done it is them ....

send it our for rebuild or buy a used >I am in the midst of a major project on my "84 928

Well, yes you can do it yourself, however, the bearings are in the ends of the tube and they are pressed in, they are also pressed onto the driveshaft itself at the same time and the shaft has to be a specific location relative to the torque tube, so unless you have a jig setup to handle 6 feet worth of torque tube and can monitor the movement of the bearings, the tube and the shaft all at the same time, don't bother trying...

That is why everyone you talked to said "it can;'t be done" the more correct statement is that unless you know what you ae doing and have the setup.._... , send it out, spend the 250-300 dollars to have it done and call it a day.you are only going to do it once in the lifetime of the car.... the same holds true for 944 torque tubes....

you are looking at around 4-6 hours... go to

and read the articles on changing the clutch, essentially you are going to do everythin up to removing the bell housing

you get to:

remove the exhaust system, remove the transaxle and shift rod, you get to drop the rear suspenion (you can't get the tube whithout doing that) then unbolt the tube from the bell housing

Hey doug Big thanks for that information. Yeah it looks like at least 6 hours to do that job. Just really worried about rusty bolts and nuts here in Chicago on a 27 year old vehicle. lol This is the first time that I have done a clutch/torque tube on a Porsche

924. I had looked at a flat labor book for a later model Porsche and it said that a clutch R&I was 12 hours. :-o

I will give an update after I finish this job maybe next week.
