Heater Controls

This will be my first winter with my 86 Porsche 944, I do not have the owners manual for it so trying to figure out the heater controls has been interesting. If someone could try to explain the best way to work the controls and what everything does that would be great (its getting very cold out!).

Much Thanks

Eddie:

In my '87 944 I see from left to right, a pushbutton with arrows chasing themselves at the top which forces air recirculating in the cabin (no fresh air) when depressed, below it is a switch turning the defroster on and off.

To the right is a fan speed knob, and 2 slider knobs. The slider knobs control the amount of air going to the top and bottom air ducts. Sliding the top lever to the right makes more air flow to the windshield ducts, sliding the bottom lever to the right forces more air to your feet. When both are to the right almost no air goes to the center (dash) vents.

To the right of these sliders is a knob controlling the temperature of the air. Clockwise for hotter air.

The last push button on the right (snow flake symbol) turns on the AC.

the heater knob sets the desired internal temperature of the car, it's calibrated in degrees C - set it to your comfort level. The fan control controls the fan speed, set it to your comfort level (has picture of a fan on it). The two sliders proportion air to top (winshield) and bottom (your feet), the remainder exits the dirctional vents (center and sides) adjust to your comfort. Defroster puts heater on max and runs AC to remove moisture, probably not needed once weather is really cold. Close off (slide the adjuster) the vent on passanger's side if no passenger is in vehicle.
