Lithium?? and Sunroof seal

Is devils944 back on his lithium? Shoot...I checked in to hear some of the devils944's wild ramblings and threats, but he seems to have been stabilized. Good for him...but not as much fun! HA HA!

I have a question, and I hope I'm not going to be flamed for asking.....

It looks like the time has come to replace the '85 944's sunroof seal (the seal which runs around the outer edge of the removable sunroof panel). There are noticeable cracks in the seal, but there are no leaks yet.

Looking at the new replacement seal, particularly in cross-sectional view, I have the feeling the job's not as simple as just pulling the old seal out, and stuffing the new one into place. I don't want to start the little project without knowing what I need to do. I've confirmed that I've ordered the correct seal, but it looks different than the one already in place.

Does anyone have any advice, or instructions, as to how to do this, or what to watch out for? I've searched various archives, but have found nothing about replacing this seal. It looks like it should be simple...but often simple-looking things can turn out to be big projects...and big pains in the butt!

As a bit of entertainment...

I put a bit of silicon sealant where the ends meet, as per factory. What happened in my case was that once I'd replaced the seal, it SQUEAKED like crazy when the lid was fully down and I couldn't get rid of the squeak- no matter what I tried. It was driving me crazy and became a straw/camel's back thing: I sold the car a few months later.
