maintenance costs for 911

Thinking of purchasing a used 911 and am curious on the maintenance costs. I would probably put 20-25K miles on per year and not do any racing but would be moderately tough on the car. Thinking of a manual transmission with a non turbo engine. A standard 911 coupe or targa with less than 40K existing miles and 1995 or newer... any comments would be appreciated!

Thanks

Barring any problems, oil changes will often run about $100 (the car uses almost a case of oil), and I suggest you let a mechanic do it so you can catch any problems with the car early. Jiffy Lubes, etc., tend not to use the correct filters and don't really know what to look for when they are under the car. Tune-ups can vary a lot, anywhere from $600 to $1000. Also, if you drive it hard expect to go through tires quickly, especially the rear tires by about 2 to 1.

Just make sure to have anything you buy inspected by a good Porsche mechanic before the sale. This expense can save you a lot of money down the road. Labor is on par with any marque, but Porsche part prices can be outrageous.

BTW, if you join PCA, and there's a track nearby, it's too tempting not to take the car on the track. :-) No speed limits. lol
