advice for new buyer

Hey, I'm interested in buying a 05 Prius from Dublin Toyota. Has anybody bought a Prius from them before? If so, did you like buying from them? After reading the posts, I have a few questions.

  1. Is anybody having stalling or monitor problems with the 05's? The posts suggest it's mostly in the 04 or earlier.
  2. Where can I find the info about purchasing the extended warranty within
36k mi?
  1. How can I know for sure the extended warranty is "toyota backed"? Does it say it on the paper? I've never bought extended warranties before, so I'm not sure.
  2. For Ca buyers, is the battery coverage 8 or 10 years.

I'm looking forward to buying a Prius, I just got a little jumpy when I read some of the problems some people are having.(although most people seem very happy with their purchase)

thanks for any help you can give, RJ

Assuming that's Dublin, CA.

I've dealt with them before. They are OK in general, though the current employees are what really matters. I do get my Prius serviced there. They appear fair most of the time.

12 years ago we bought the wife's camry there. The finance manager tried to hard-sell the waranty and screwed with the paper work. Just short of being criminal. We complained to the owner. THe next time we were in we heard the finance manager was fired the week we complained.

The extended waranty may or may not be needed. The reliability on the 2004-2005 has been pretty darn good so far. AAA will sell you an extended warranty too.

Good luck with your car.

make sure it's the Toyota Extra Care Platinum Plan, and that youare not buying it from the Southeast or Gulf States Toyota regions.4. The hybrid battery is covered under the Hybrid Vehicle Systemswarranty for 8 years/100,000 miles in the US, unless you have a 2004 ornewer Prius and are in a state that follows the CA emission standards, where the battery is separately covered under the emissions warrantyfor 10 years/150,000 miles.
  2. bad displays are only in 2004 Prius, Land Cruisers, and Highlanders, and not all of them are having the problem (which is covered by a TSB). Stalling is uncommon (most common cause is the owner forgetting to fill the car with gasoline!), and others are fixed with known SSCs/TSBs.
