Navigation Voice Guidance levels on the G3

Because I couldn't hear the nav. voice guidance above the radio at reasonable radio levels and far from excessive road speeds, I took my G3 along to the dealer, who agreed that the voice level was nowhere near high enough on max - indeed he had experienced an identical problem on another Prius. The aftersales manager has investigated the manuals and can find no means of tweaking the levels other than the user-accessible settings via "VOICE" on the main settings screen, which I've already set to level 7 (max). The dealer has agreed to register this with Toyota as an issue and I understand that if enough such registrations are received they may do something about it. So, if you are having the same problem and you haven't found the answer get your dealer to do the same. If enough of us complain then it might get fixed.

Chas,

Would you do me the favor of checking something under your hood? Just to the left of the fuse box there is an aluminum box about the size of 400 page book with two cables plugged into the top. The rear plug is about twice the size of the front plug. On my 2010 the rear plug has a hood but the front plug does not, exposing a number of small wires. Do both of your plugs have hoods?

(Stuff about Nav voice gudiance)

Hi Al,

I've taken a look and - as you observe - the front multiway connector has no hood and the wires are indeed exposed. Furthermore the top of the plug into which the wires are terminated appears to be a natural collector for water and dirt. Looks like a potential fault waiting to occur to me........ Might have a word with the Dealer next time I go in.

I showed that to my dealer when I picked up the car. He agreed it didn't look proper. Since yours is also missing a hood too, I'll bet they were out of stock when the cars were built and they didn't want to hold up production.
