Prius in cold winter climate

Hi,

Does anyone have experience about Prius in cold weather? Do the batteries survive freezing temps? Can you start the engine when it is 10F or even 0F? Do you need an extra battery charger or other devices? Or is Prius a car only for mild or warm climate?

The Prius is unusually good in cold weather. Some of the most enthusiastic owners live in Minnesota and points north.

One Canadian on priuschat is complaining that at -30F it takes along time for the cabin to warm. He has no other complaint. Peace Ammiel

I use my Prius everyday in Upstate NY. I got mine the day before Thanksgiving and didn't park it in the garage until Middle of December. We had a couple of below zero days and it started and ran just fine. At that temperature it takes about 10 minutes for the cabin to warm up and it sucks gas. Mine got 40mpg the first tank full. The first snow produced a delightful, for me anyways, adventure that I dread with my truck. And the weather has been mostly icy, but the Prius has responded great. Very little worry about slipping and sliding, but after 30+ years of winter driving, I drive cautiously anyways. The Prius has been a pleasant surprise and now I look forward everyday to using it, salty roads or not.
