414 Sli 16v

Hi All

Something strange, my wife's 414 sl1 16v does not want to start unless a give it a shot of quick start into the Carb! Carb on a "i" is this right? it does not look like an injection system but the badge says 414 sli 16v and there is an ECU tucked behind the battery, the logboook has the same engine number and we had an HPI done on it when we bought the car so I think the car is right. Is this right?

Cheers

It's not a carb, it just looks like one! It's actually a throttle-body injection system (often called single-point injection or central fuel injection). The fact you have to squirt something in to get it to start would imply that the mixture is too weak by itself. Do you only have to do this when the engine is cold, but otherwise it starts when warm? If so then the prime suspect is the coolant temperature sensor which will be on the coolant outlet elbow from the engine and will have two wires leading from it...

Thanks for the explanation on the Single Point Injector first time I have seen one, the problem happens when cold or hot I have changed the Distributor Cap and Rotor Arm but the Easy Start is still needed to get her going, when running it goes well but after around 15 miles it is like somebody has an on off switch the rev counter drops and engine stutters it seems to be around 2500 revs I can keep it running by not demanding too much of the throttle and keeping the revs low, so from what I have seen on some other postings I will have a look at the Fly wheel sensor and give the cable loom a good look at, is there a way to read off any fault codes on the EMU? like flashing lamps.

Thanks for your answers and tips.
