620 HeadLights

hi all

recently aquired a 620 and have head light/electrical questions

for the second time in three week of owning the car , i have managed to leave my lights on all day and run the battery flat.

Bearing in mind that this is an r rge (1997) car i would have thought that it should have a warning buzzer when the door is opened with the lights on, most of manufactures put them on.

Also other manufacture make the light dip down onto side lights only when th ignition is switched off. I think rover should follow suit, cos mine satay on ignition or not.

I hope someone will tell me that i have an electrical fault causing these too problems and that this isn't normal, at least i can sort it then,

Thanks again all

p.s still not got my air con sorted due to garages not agreeing on a price, one rover dealer (JCT600, Wakefield WestYorks) quoted £59 for the regas/system check, Clarks/ C D Brammel in leicester want £105. Why the different, its the damn same job??

Hi Vertuas!

My Rover 200 sdi `98 don`t have a warning buzzer when door are open. When ignition is switched off the lights are able to switch on. I don`t think so you have any anomalities.

OK i sorted half of my problem

I figured out that out of the four switches on the doors (ie for courtesy light) i have 1 (yes ONE) that actually works!!

the one that works i put onto the drivers door and the buzzer works now!

Yipppeeeee

Hi damian

Thanks for the reply

As you have propably read, i sorted the buzzer issue, just need 3 new switches

I am used to my light dimming down to side lights only when the ignition is turned off, i have had volvo adn ford cars in the past. The lights staying on dipped beam is a new concept on me

Thanks again for the post

Right, I`ve just discovered in my Rover buzzing when lights are on and the ignition is switched on (or off).

You have the same problem?

New switches are around £5.50 +VAT from dealers

Those door switches cause some of the biggest problems with alarm faults I see. the drivers one is most commonly totally broken so the Multi function unit (MFU) thinks the door is open all the time, hence the interior light does not work and the alarm does not set.

Nope, it works OK I think.

It has been my experience that the conductor part tends to crack on the point where a right angle is bent into the metal. A possible design fault (unless you have shares in the company making the blasted things).

Perhaps you should remember to switch them off :)

Er, it does have the buzzer.

Either yours is faulty, or it doesn't know the door is opening !

Nope, cos then you wouldn't be able to use the lights without having the ignition on !

It's not normal - you have a fault.

Avoid dealers for AirCon work.

Get out your Yellow Pages, and phone your local AirCon specialists. I had mine regassed a couple of months ago - it's a trivial job, and should cost no more than an hour's labour (mine was £40 inc VAT).

Door switch wasn't working, thought door was always closed.

Try swapping it with other switches to find that there is only on on the car that does work

Why would you want to use anything other than side markers without the ignition on

  1. You don't need to see where you are going, as you can't go anywhere

  1. You only flatten the battery with the lights on and the engine off.

You sometimes need side markers on when leaving the car parked at the side on an unlit road

Damn they are so expensive, but one dealer charging double the other for the same work?? Thats not just ecpensive, its insanity!
