98 Rover 400 1.6 iS / Si ... PART II - alloy wheels

This relates to the same car - different question.

This car is fitted with steel wheels - 185/60 r14's - which I would like to replace with alloys. Has anyone done this - and if so what sizes have been fitted? My old car had 185/55r15's but I was thinking about 16" or 17" wheels... does anyone have any advice?

Thanks in advance.

my '97 400 runs on 205/40 tyres on a 17" rim with no probs. Lowered 35mm too

Thanks again 'Nom',

this is a great link - I had done the calcs in Excel but this confirms I was doing the right thing.

I am probably going to go for either 15" or 17" - as 16" is pretty expensive when it comes to replacement tyres.

I was wanting to work within about 2% of the original overall size so will likely go for something like 205/50-15 or the 16" or 17" you suggested.

I will take another look at the 16" option (as on the MG I believe) but this will depend on price and availability of the replacement tyres!

Thanks again,

Ken.
