Opinions on the R75 2.5V6 Connoisseur

I'm just coming up on the bubble on my present car (R75 2.0CDT Classic) and looking for something with aircon to replace it.

I think I've just found a slightly older 2.5 Connoisseur and was just looking for opinions on them:

Is the KV6 OK as an engine, or does it have any notable problems?

Is the autobox fitted to these any good, or does it tend to spontaneously die?

What does Connoisseur spec actually confer - I'm in it for the A/C, but it would be nice if it came with some of the extras the Club doesn't - like either of the navigation packages, or a CD player - any ideas?

Anything to watch out for on a T-Reg 75 V6?

Thanks

P.

Like the K-series it was based upon, the KV6 had a bit of a reputation for munching through head gaskets. However, this was mainly on the old 800 series which was the first widescale application of that engine, so newer engines may well be fine. Having said that, a T reg is not really that new so look for signs it's had work on the heads recently.

As Darren said, the KV6 was "tested" in the last of the 800 series and did have a habit of blowing it's head gaskets. However, I had one of those 825's which had popped one of it's gaskets at around 60,000 miles (before I bought it). It wasn't a secret and I knew the gaskets (both) had been replaced back then. I did a further 140,000 miles in that car, the only thing I did to it engine-wise was replace the oil. It still pulled like a train when I sold it at almost 200,000 still with the original spark plugs! I'm not saying the KV6 is faultless but I went and bought a KV6 based Rover 75 straight after I'd sold it.
