Restyled Rover badge

Has anybody else seen the restyled Rover badge?

Not sure if it is a good idea and wonder how many other manufacturers change their badges. For example I cannot recall any changes to the blue oval of Ford or BMW's badge.

What do you all think?

BMW's badge has evolved over the years, just as Rover's had. Its just a question of moving with the times. Personally, I like the new badge

Actually, both companies have changed their badges over a period of time. As for Rover...well, I think they are up to something like 20 different designs over the years. the new badge was designed to emphasise the future of Rover, the current badge dates back to the 1970's and shows its age. have a look at the style of the sails in the boat, very square, plus the actual badge itself is very "busy" It takes some four screens to print (the boats lines are actually brown) The new design is cleaner and more up to date. This badge will go across the range from 04 MY cars, which will all be facelifted at the same time.

As BT and BA have discovered, a badge or logo makes not a tad of difference ! There is only one thing that is really important, and that is the product.

Companies waste so much time and money on names and the such like. Which advertising agency would have suggested VW or BMW for example.

Get the car right, and the rest takes care of itself.

No, the design briefs are to keep the cars fresh but still to hold the "Rover" style on the RD models, and sporty for the X models. However, the badge would not sit right on the current 25/45 grilles as an example

There may be a time lag I agree, in that BMW may have allowed their standards to fall, and the public take time to react, but when attempting to establish a reputation for producing a quality product, it's the product that counts, not the image, especially now there is so much opportunity for media reviews and public debate.

Haven't Fiat just changed from the italicised /FLAT/ to a nice round one?

Yea, old one looked better.

Sure I read something recently saying that Ford were going to use a different colour backing on their oval on a certain car, special edition or somesuch (*migh* have been the GT but I don't think so).

Can't for the life of me remember where I read it tho :/
