Rover 214si 16v Multipoint starting problem

Hi

My Gf has a 1993 90,000 fsh 214si which is starting to get a buggar to start when cold. It will seem slikes it not firing for 10 seconds on start up then run fine with no misfire at all. It has new ht leads, the dizzy has been checked and cleaned, she has new spark plugs, The fuel pump noise has seemed to either gone quiet or stopped

When starting you also need to put you foot on the accelerator or she will not start at all ?

I think its either ... The fuel pump, fuel pump relay, Crank shaft sensor but need expert help

In addition to the above it will infrequently cut out when going down the gears when slowing down but will start straight away again ?

NOW IT WILL NOT START AT ALL !!

starter click > tried to jump will not fire new battery dead ! recharge battery still wont fire

took alternator off will take it in tomorrow, 'narrowed' it down to:

starter motor - although engine turns

engine timing - it has just had a new head gask

dissy - looks clean and have re-cleaned it

crank angle sensor - dont even know how much these cost or where to get from apart from main dealer :/ scrappy ??? and where is it located exactly ?

Immobiliser ????? sticking on ??

she is firing on all leads though

very very weird and annoying

any help appreciated as she has been without a car for a week now and has even started stealing mine to go shopping

please help me ......

more than likely the crank sensor has packed up. its not expensive and easy to replace. its located at the back of the engine, about half way down, and is held in place with an 8mm bolt. it takes a reading from the flywheel which is located between the engine and gearbox. also check inside the distributor cap, common place for condensation. steve. oxford

Changed and still no joy , fuel is coming into engine fine took pipe of filter and she is losing fuel, just wont start at all, replaced rotor arm and dizzy still no joy ?

Any other suggestions or is it just better to get it plugged into a diagnostics and see what happens there ?

Thanks
