1989 9000 long cranking time

Hello All, My 2.3 9000 Auto with Direct Ignition (and 184,000 miles on the clock) has until recently ALWAYS started first time and within about 2 seconds of cranking the engine.

It still starts first time but is taking maybe 4 to 6 seconds of cranking before the engine fires. Clearly something has changed and I would appreciate any suggestions as where to look before I give my garage a call?

thanks.

Perhaps the check valve in the fuel pressure regulator has failed, allowing fuel to drain back into the tank overnight.
