2001 9-5 Brakes & Rotors

Thanks to all that responded to my prior question regarding brake replacement.

What are the visual signs that would indicate rotor replacement is necessary. And if replacement is necessary, is it difficult to replace rotors?

Thanks again,

Greg

Hi,

They would need replacing if they are deeply grooved because of dirt being trapped between rotor and pad or most likely because they are thinner than the specification.

If you can lay your hands on a micrometer you can measure the thickness and check it against the specification of new rotors. If you have started seeing a metal lip on the edge of the rotor (not the rust, you would have to remove that) then they are probably worn beyond minimum spec.

I will leave the comments for replacement for those who know the car.

If it helps at all.

Well, some grooving is normal and acceptable. Cracks or warps would be heard and felt as a pulsating. Also, rotors have a minimum thickness spec, so a set of calipers would be useful for checking that.

It's one or two screws more than you just did for pads. No biggie, just not needed every time.
