2003 - 9-3 conv SE, rough starting when cold

I purchased my 9-3 conv. SE this past spring. Now that the cooler weather has come on it has become stubborn to start in morning. It tends to cough, sputter then die. Several attempts are required before it remains running. Once running it runs fine with no coughing are hesitation at all.

I have checked the spark plugs they appear visually to be in good shape. The car runs great, has been getting normal gas milage, normal power on acelleration etc. The car has 51,000 miles, past the warranty period.

Are SAAB 9-3's cold natured, is this normal, or something amiss. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would start by checking the battry and terminals. Have someone start the car while you have a volt meter hooked up. It has been a while since I checked, but IIRC the voltage should stay above 10.5V while the car is trying to start. If the terminals are corroded that definitely needs to be looked after.
