2004 9-5 parts stockpiling?

I have a 2004 9-5; I have had no major problems with the car to date, it has only 88km on it, and it's paid for. Accordingly, it seems like good sense to me to keep driving it as long as I can. However, it also might seem prudent to cache some parts for future use. What would people recommend as a useful shopping list of parts?

Are there parts that it would be good to collect now because finding them in a year or two will become even more expensive or next to impossible?

Why? Parts will be avaiable for years to come (10+). As long as the major Saab subsuppliers are swedish based, there's a huge market. So no reason for them to stop producing the parts.

Mainly, I guess, because I live in North America (Canada), and my expectation is that the cost and time-to-access for parts may grow unreasonably. I suppose I had thoughts that buying a few vital parts / now/ would help guard against increases in cost or decreases in easy availability here...

I have two local Saab dealers within about 10 miles of my house.

Do I buy parts from them?

No. I buy parts from online specialist suppliers, and get them delivered...

But you are not in Canada ;-)

True, but I'm sure some of the various online suppliers are - or. at least, next door.

Somewhere between 100k and 150k kilometers the crankshaft position sensor, the fuel pump and the heater bypass valve will fail on many cars. All of them will require the car to be towed to a garage. There are also a couple of parts in the rear suspension that wear out quite quickly, however these give you early warnings. You can find most of this info on various web sites.

Don't forget, the north american specialists will already import in bulk from Swedish specialists anyway, so will need might be higher because all owners will need to use them when Saab dealers vanish, the supply will still be there.

Why not just stockpile 9-5s - you will be able to buy decent used ones for a few cents soon enough.
