'88 900S check engine light

A few days ago the 900S 16V started acting up a bit when cold, when I let off the gas to shift the RPM's would dive to nearly stalling then immediately recover, worked ok when hot. Today I replaced a couple vacuum lines that were very brittle and snapped, one to the fuel pressure regulator and the other to the crankcase vent on the valve cover. I also cleaned out the idle speed regulator motor and throttle body with carb cleaner, and replaced the thermostat since it had been warming up slowly. Now the engine runs nicely but the idle is a tad high (about 1000 RPM warm) and the check engine light is on. I'm almost positive all the vacuum lines are connected properly and I verified that the RPM changes when I unplug the idle regulator. Is there any way to figure out why the check engine light is on?
