9-3 manual gearbox oil

Hi all,

I have a 9-3 LPT manual with 101Kmiles on the clock. I changed the gearbox oil the other day using the pukka Saab synthetic stuff, but the old oil I drained out looked nothing like it. The gearbox was rebuilt about a year ago at a back-street garage and I guess they just put any old stuff in.

My problem is that the Saab oil carries dire warnings along the lines of "MUST NOT BE MIXED WITH OTHER OILS" I've just bought another two litres of the Saab oil and I'll change it again, but will that be enough to reduce the percentage of old oil to an acceptable level?

Cheers,

Colin.

The MTF 0063 gearbox oil should *absolutely* not be mixed with other oils, synthetic or dino. No exceptions.

The procedure used to switch from any other oil to MTF 0063 involves:

  • Drain the old oil. * Add 1.5L of new MTF 0063 oil. * Run engine with first gear (wheels in air) for a couple of minutes, or drive a short trip. * Drain the oil. * Add 1.5L of new MTF 0063 oil. * Run engine with first gear (wheels in air) for a couple of minutes, or drive a short trip. * Drain the oil. * Add new MTF 0063 oil until oil flows out of oil level hole.

Thanks for the advice people, I think I'll probably do the three changes, just to be sure.

Cheers,
