96 9000CS central locking

A common problem. Most likely due to bad solder joints in the central locking controller located under the dash to the left of the steering collum. To get at it one must remove the carboard shield under the dash by pulling out the plastic rivet-like retainers. Chances are you will break one or more of these but they can be replaced. The controller is a black plastic box about 5 inches long, 2 inches wide, and 1 inch thick. it is held in place with one clip. It is an easy fix for anyone with minimal experience with soldering electrical components. Carefully pry the box apart and pull out the circuit board. On the board are two mini-relays (little black boxes). One is for the door locks and the other for the truck lock. For some reason the solder that holds the prongs of the relays to the board is insufficient and with age the connections become intermittent. Simply resolder the prongs of the relays to the board and I will but your locks will work perfectly. Check the other solder joints while you have the board out. Saab wants over $250 plus labor to replace the central lock controller so its worth fixing yourself or taking it to an electronics repair shop. It is possible that the problem is with a switch in the driver's door but I would say that 99 times out of 100 it is due to poor solder joints in the controller.

Very likely solution. I had the same, replaced the relay, end it never occurred again. The Central locking relay is easy to replace, and does not cost much at a breaker/junkyard. I got mine for 15? + postage from a fellow saabforum.nl member who used to keep a spare when he drove
