ABS indicator goes on at acceleration

When I accelerate quite notebly with my 89 9k the "ANTI-LOCK" indicator flashes up for a short time. But sometimes it doesn't go off until I stop the car and start it again. Something serious to worry about?

With the proviso that it *may* be very serious (line leak, air bubble, pump starting to go) - have your mechanic check the ABS ring and wire on the axels. It's also likely the boots and joints are starting to age too.

Often the ring sensor will simply short or get loose in there so that while the brakes are working, the ABS system isn't working all the time.. If it goes on for a bit, you'll find the ABS system will cycle alarmingly once or twice during rounds of city driving. Peddle will floor and/or get stiff for a just a short second - then operate normally for the rest of the day/week..

Your brakes will continue to work - but eventually the ABS system will simply cease to be active at all and then it's you call as to what it's worth to repair. Try to be careful here - it's usually not cheap to fix because the mechanic involved will naturally want to swap out the whole system rather than bodge the ABS rings and wires.. This is because if he gets it wrong and it really is the ABS master - it's a heck of a problem for everyone involved.
