Fuel Gauge/Transmitter Problem on C900S

Hi all -

1994 Saab 900S Convertible. Just replaced the Fuel pump and fuel line check valve on the Saab (complete pain in the neck -word of advice- DoNT break your fuel line check valve) and noticed for the first time after start up an erratic fuel reading on the fuel gauge - first ever occurrence. As the car slows down, the fuel gauge jumps from the correct reading of half a tank down to 0, up gain, down again, up again and settles out once the car resumes constant speed. Upon a complete fill up - the gauge remains at full, and appears to be decrementing correctly.

I did indeed remove the float arm and yellow wire from the new fuel pump as directed, but as this has nothing to do with the fuel level transmitter, what on earth could the problem be? I plan to check the wiring harness on the fuel level transmitter this weekend to potentially isolate the problem, but if anyone has some insight, it would be much appreciated. TIA - David
