Help! Interior lightning problem: anyone have access to wiring diagrams?

I have '99 9-3 and I have a problem with interior lightning. When dome light switch is in 'door' position, dome lights work as designed. However, dome lights do not work at all in 'on' position of switch. In addition, map/reading lights do not work, not at front nor at rear, and problem expands also to make-up lights on sunvisors on both sides.

I have tracked the problem down to wiring in roof: it seems that there is a blue-green wire that should provide constant +12V, which it does not do. This same color coded wire serves all lights mentioned above and very well explains problems I'm struggling with. Dome light switch works all right.

Now my problem is that I was not able to track where this blue-green wire comes from. I checked back of fuse box, and wire that starts from there is orange, and cannot be a cause for problems anyway because door position works.

Do you have access to wiring diagram, and could you check where this bloody blue-green wire starts from? Could you also check where orange wire behind the fuse box turns into blue-green? Which way wires travel to roof? I assume they go inside drivers side A-pillar, is that right? Do they travel inside the pillar or between pillar and cloth that covers it? If I tear down interior parts on A-pillar, will I be able to see the wiring?

Help!

Here's the info I have. It may only relate to UK cars though.

The +12V supply for the roof lighting goes down to a connector in the boot behind the left back wheel. From there is goes forward to another connector below the left A-pillar. Then it goes to the DICE module (pin 70) above the pedals. It stays blue/green all the way to that point. The power for it comes from fuse 4 via a blue/red wire into pin

24 of the DICE module.

Here's hoping it isn't a problem with the DICE module...

Cheers,

Colin.

Thanks! Just to make sure I got it right: it does NOT travel inside/via A-pillar at all, but from roof it goes to trunk/boot, and then to front of the car on left hand side of the car, where it connects to DICE. Is that right? OK, I keep on hunting.

BTW; what is DICE? Something that is known to be a problem and expensive to fix? How do I check if it is OK?

Yep, as far as I can tell, that's how it is.

It's a control box that seems to handle loads of little timing and power control functions for all sorts of things like indicator flashing, intermittent wipe, fog lights and, of course, the various interior light delays. I've no idea how much it costs but I bet it isn't cheap. There's no reason why it should be broken - it's just the worst-case scenario.

I suppose the simplest test would be to check for +12V on pin 70 and pin 24. If it's there on pin 24 but not on pin 70, then the DICE unit has that output turned off for some reason. A Saab dealer should be able to read the fault codes to see what the DICE unit thinks is wrong

- maybe just a short to ground on the blue/green wire or something.

OK, I will do that. I suppose this DICE is pretty easy to locate? I checked the wiring in trunk for this stuff, and yes, it seems that blue-green wire has the same 0.4V in trunk, which I measured at roof dome. So, it must be grounded somewhere between trunk and DICE, or DICE itself. I checked the pins you suggested. However, I'm not sure If I'm ready to invest on new DICE even if it is broken, because everything else it controls seems to work.

But, yes, I will do the measurements you suggested, and If it seems to be DICE, I will take it to dealer for fault code read-out.
