Major Electical Issues 2000 9-3 Convertible

I have a 2000 9-3 Convertible. I stalled (manual transmission) the other day. I turned off the car and when I tried to restart it nothing happened.

The car does not 'turn over'. When I put the key in the radio seems to start working and the antenna goes up. When I move the key to the 'On' (or further to start the car) everything goes out. No console lights, no SID, no radio, totally dark.

Does this car even turn over if there isn't the required voltage at the starter? Could a batter just up and die like that? I had no power or starting issues prior to this in any way.

Any ideas at all?

Regards, Nicholas Lemberger

Sorry,

ALTERNATOR

It sounds like your alternator died, and stopped charging the battery, and it was no longer able to provide electricity to the spark plugs to keep the engine going. It still has enough power to keep the radio running, though.

At least this is what happened to one car I had.

This same thing happened in my Sonett once... after a long search it turned out that the terminal from the ign. switch to the starter motor solenoid slipped off the contact at the solenoid. After I put it back on it was all OK.

It could also be a bad starter motor solenoid.
