Re: stuck wastegate

I have a 1995 9000CS with 145,000 miles on it. I've been having an

I own a 1997 9000 cs and have had the same problem. It`s a fairly common problem with the lpt engine for some reason. I bought mine with this problem but soon figured it out. I took a can of WD40, PB blaster or some other spray lubricant or rust buster and sprayed it all over the linkage of the wastegate. It worked great for about 8 months or so and it started to act up again. Just another spray and all was well again. The symptoms were just as you mentioned. When the waste gate would stick the engine would over boost and the fuel shut off would kick in until you set off on the throttle a little and give it throttle a little slower. I figure as long as I just have to give it a spray every 8 months or so I will live with the problem for now. btw It is a pain in the ass to get to it from above without putting it on a lift and removing some plastic covere underneath. I just put one of those straw like things on the spray nozzle and sort of bend it around everything in the way to feel my way to where I want to direct the spray pattern. I also can`t belive you can`t replace a bad wastegate without rebuilding the entire turbo. Hope this helps.
